An anorthosite occurrence is recorded from the granulite terrain of Kerala. The anorthosite is massive, coarse and dark grey coloured showing variation from anorthosite to gabbroic anorthosite and extends over an area of 50 Sq. km as an elliptical body. The field characters, chemistry and the spatial association of the 678 m.y. old Rapakivi granite with gabbros and anorthosites suggest that these litho-units have developed through bimodal magmatic processes whereby heat derived from basic magma parental to the anorthositic rocks caused partial melting at or near the base of the crust to produce granitic magma with Rapakivi characteristics.

Native silver alloyed with gold in varying proportions occurs as tiny inclusions mostly in the sulphide ores of Ingaldhal, Chitradurga schist belt. The data presented establishes the copper deposit as a source of silver metal too and the appropriateness of terming the hill 'Belligudda' (Silver Hill) by the ancient miners is affirmed. The volcanic flows having a dominant tholeiitic character are the actual source of basemetals, as well as precious metals, while tectonism and metamorphism aided by the intrusion of Chitradurga granite pluton have probably caused variable amounts of redistribution and remobilisation.Keywords

The Archaean Dharwar greenstone belts of Karnataka predominantly consist of iron enriched tholeiitic Metabasalts, basaltic komatiites, sulphidic chert bands and argillite-graywacke sequence. In Nuggihalli schist belt, in association with mafic-ultramafic rocks, calc-alkaline lamprophyres (Spessartite-Kersantite suite), comparable with Kamblada-Yilgam of Western Australia, have been recorded for the first time. Gold mineralisation is associated with these meta-lamprophyres.
The lamprophyres, in Nuggihalli belt, is a highly banded hornblende-biotite rich quartzo-felspathic rock, forming sill like bodies at the contact of mafic-ultramafic rocks, intensely co-folded along with the enclosing rocks, recording three phases of deformation.
REE values, plotted against MORB values confirm lamprophyric affinity with increased values for Sr, K, Rb, Zr and Y. In Rock/Chondrite values plot, very pronounced increase in values of Ba, Rb, K, P, Zr and Ti is indicated while a pronounced depletion in Nb is brought out, characteristic of Calc-alkaline lamprophyres.
Search for similar rocks in many ultramafic belts in Southern Peninsular Shield will be of great Significance in working out the tectonic evolution ofthese greenstone belts and also serve as favourable target areas for gold exploration.

Geochemical mapping has been carried out in Goa using soil/laterite and stream sediment as media. The geochemical maps for U, Th, Nb and Ta show a conspicuous pattern in the NW part of Goa. The anomaly axis shows a NE-SW trend which is across the formational trend. The nickel and copper distribution around Usgaon area, east of Ponda, have indicated anomalous signature in the northern continuation of the Usgaon ultramafic complex.Keywords
